While I love enduring design styles like Scandi or mid-century modern, sometimes it’s fun to mix it up a bit! Therefore, let me introduce… this year’s trending interior design styles!
Some of the current trending interior design styles originate from a desire for whimsy in our post-lockdown high-inflation world, and some other are a merge of existing interior design styles to create something fresh and original.

Cute and cruelty-free: an intro guide to vegan baby products
I’ve ordered the following interior design styles based on when they started trending, from oldest to most recent, so make sure you read until the end, to gather trending design inspiration for your home!
As a side note, some of these styles are a bit “out there”, so pick and choose what you like and leave the rest. 😊

New traditional
Traditional is getting a makeover! Simpler lines and shapes bring traditional decor into the 21st century, while maintaining a timeless elegance. The idea is to pair back on the ornementation so the room doesn’t seem so busy, but still looks classic.
Scandifornian
So this is essentially the Scandinavian design style… but with palm trees! I’ve gone a bit heavy on the jute and woven textures as I feel they embody the sand colour from the Californian style and the natural elements and neutral palette of the Scandi style.
Postmodern
Fun shapes and bold colours mark a departure from the neutral-heavy form-first interiors that were common in the 2010s. If you want something playful that makes a bold statement, postmodern might be for you! I’ve included some tamer items that you could include in your home to avoid going 100% zany.
Carnivalcore
So this one was definitely a stretch… As my favourite interior design YouTuber Nick Lewis says, this is probably not a style that normal people are going to adopt wholesale. But hey, if you’ve got nice memories of going to the circus or the fun fair, here’s some inspiration to bring that nostalgia into your home.
Organic modern / modern organic
Organic modern is a softer take on the all-grey almost museum-like modern interiors we saw in the 2010s. Curved shapes and natural textures make the space more welcoming, while keeping a modern feel.
Mermaidcore
I’m kind of surprised to say this, but these items are my favourite out of all the trending interior design styles I researched for this blog post! This interior design style is probably trending because of the Little Mermaid live action adaptation. (Have you seen it Tell me in the comments!)

Peacock Rattan Dining Chairs, Set of 2

Barbiecore
So Barbiecore is of course tied to the craze around the new Barbie film, but I think it’s also part of a wider movement around things that are unapologetically girly and feminine, like all the enthusiasm around the Taylor Swift Eras tour.
In any case, here are some touches of pink you can add to your home that go with a variety of personal styles:

Handmade ceramic mug with wiggle handle design and pink glaze

Fringe Studio Boxed Notecard Set

Dakota Melamine Side Plates, Set of 4
